If your Indian passport is going expire are expired recently, you can renew it in USA.
You can send you passport renewal application to any one of the Consular Jurisdiction based on you residence. Here is the list of Consular Jurisdiction: Washington DC, New York (NY), Chicago (IL), Houston (TX), San Francisco (CA), Atlanta (GA)
Passport renewal service is not available for B1/B2 visa holders and temporary visitors to USA.
Follow below steps to renew Indian Passport from USA.
- Indian Govt. Website - To fill the passport application and download.
- VFS Global Website - To pay passport renewal fee and send application package.
- Documents Required - Collect all required documents and attest or notarize as requested.
- Send the application package in Mail
Indian Passport renewal process is as below.
Step 1: Go to Indian Government Website

To start passport applications, first you need to register into Govt Website. Click on "Register" button, and provide you basic details.
You will receive an email to activate you account with a link. Click on link and you account will be activated.
Now you can login to Govt website where you can fill the online application.
once you login, you ca find couple of links on Applicant Home page.
Click on "Apply for Ordinary Passport - Application for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport (Blue cover passport)".
Fill all the sections as requested.

You can save the application and continue to fill later if you want. An Application Reference Number (ARN) will be created for your application.
After completing your application you can see it in "Applicant Home" page. Select the application, then you can find "Print Application Form".
Print the application and paster your photograph (2X2) and add signature (below photograph and at the end of the document).
Step 2: Go to VFS Global Website

Click on "Create new Application"
Fill the details and proceed to payment. It will redirect payment gateway (adyen.com) where you can pay using Credi/Debit card or Online Banking. You can also pay by Money Order or Check.
Once payment is completed, you can download the shipping labels to send the application package.
Step 3: Documents Required (For Adults)
- Annexure E
- Affidavit for change of appearance & signature
- Valid Status in USA (like GC, Visa, EAD, I-797 Approval Notice etc.,)
- Proof of Address (like DL, State ID, Utility Bills etc.,)
- Two photographs (2x2)
- Indian Passport (Original)
- Fee Payments and Courier Envelopes
- Check List
Step 4: Mail the Application Package
Mail to application package with all required documents one of the Consular Jurisdiction based on your residence.

Your Application has been ‘Processed’ at the VFS India Consular application Centre and currently is ‘In-Transit’ to the Embassy of India/Consulate General of India for decision making. As soon as VFS India Consular application Centre receives an update, the status on the ‘Track and Trace’ page will be revised accordingly.
